Horses away
After we took the horses to the vet and their negative coggins papers came back we took them to our cousin's house where they have 20+ acres of pasture to roam. We got our pasture reseeded and it's growing.. in little green patches. It's not doing so well, please pray that it starts growing better and through the whole pasture, not just in patches. I saw Angel for the first time in weeks when we went to our cousin's house last week. Our cousins only live 11 miles away, but we don't get a chance to go over there often. When I went over there I found that she is positively fat. Which is good, we've never been able to keep any weight on her, and her hooves look splendiferous. They look like a show horse's or something and she hasn't seen a farrier in months. Barefoot, good grass, and lots of moisture go along way to getting good hooves. Hopefully we'll be able to go back to my cousin's soon and ride. | | Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 | | 5:45 pm |
To the vet and back
We had a horror of a time getting the horses to the vet and back. I won't even go into details. They needed their coggins tests done, a four way shot and a flu shot. We needed the coggins done because we want to take them across the state line to my cousin's house so they can stay in their pasture for awhile. Our pasture was just reseeded and tilled. All three of our pastures, actually and right now the horses are in the arena eating hay and getting virtually no exercise. So, as soon as we get the coggins tests back and they're negative, we'll take them to our cousins. If they come back and they're positive, then we'll just have dead horses then, won't we. That'd be wonderful. *sarcasm* | | Sunday, August 17th, 2008 | | 8:33 pm |
Back Again
Wow, I haven't updated in awhile, have I. Nothing much going on in the horse world. Rachel and I were riding every day for awhile, but then we were busy and staying at the neighbor's for a week and then we just got back from Kentucky, where we camped for a week. We'll probably get back to riding soon. Except... school is coming up in full force. Fortunately, however, it is my senior year and I'll be done after this year. That means much more time for riding! I have no plans for going to college. Recently we got 4 -5 acres of woods cleared for a new pasture. We need it and our other two pastures tilled and seeded. the original two got stripped because of the drought the past two years and the other, hasn't ever had grass on it, just an impenetrable forest. So the horses will be cooped up in the barn for a couple months while the grass grows. We're definitely going to need more hay. And we'll be needing to exercise them vigorously every day! Angel especially, she always has so much energy! | | Friday, June 6th, 2008 | | 10:38 am |
Horses are loose!
The horses got out the other day. That was worrisome We got them back safe and sound, though | | Sunday, May 11th, 2008 | | 5:53 pm |
Riding
I went riding today! Yah! It was really windy and I haven't ridden in awhile. About a month. It's been too wet, too cold, too muddy, etc. But Angel doesn't mind the wind. We didn't ride Macy, she was disappointed, but she acts up in the wind too much. Angel is doing much better in the weight area, at least, she looks loads better, I don't really know how much she weighs. Rachel and I both rode. And she was doing really well toward the end of our rides. Unfortunately my knee wasn't. It's still a little weak from my fall and I have trouble gripping the saddle especially when Angel pitches forward. She overreaches (her back hooves hit her front fetlocks) so she stumbles occasionally. We're going to get her some overreach protective boots which should help. Hehe, my birthday was two days ago, and all my presents were horse related. I did get some cash, but that was spent on some horse supplies for Angel. She broke her halter, so I got her an all rope one, so she can't mess up the hardware like on the other, I got some cross tie supplies so we can finally have some cross ties in the barn, and I got a lunge whip so she'll walk around me instead of coming up to get pet! | | Monday, March 10th, 2008 | | 9:26 pm |
O.o
It Snowed. I'm not too happy. But the horses sure are. | | Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 | | 4:32 pm |
How icky pattoo
I'm sick. Really, really, really sick...with the fly...I mean...flyu...FLU! I haven't been able to get out to the barn in two days due to achy everything, fever, horrible sore throat, burning eyes, horrid cough, and stomach ache. Fortunately Rachel is taking care of Angel (and Ferdinand) for me. Isn't she nice? :) 135 days until we go to Colorado! | | Sunday, January 13th, 2008 | | 7:10 pm |
Ripped blanket, torn fence, going riding
Three days after Angel got her blanket she ripped a 1X2 ft hole in it. Which I had to repair. They have still be hurting the fence, and I had to put up an electric line over the top which isn't working yet. I rode her yesterday, for the first time since I fell. And I didn't fall. | | Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 | | 9:16 pm |
Doo dah doo
Not much going on here. Angel's doing better in her training, she's listening better, too. Both Angel and Macy or being horrid terrors (Are there any other kind of terrors?) to the fence. They're trying to knock it down, to get to the grass on the other side...because... grass on the other side of the fence is greener, of course. I have surgery tomorrow to take two screws out of my knee. | | Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 | | 4:43 pm |
Blankets
We got the new blankets! They fit well and the horses don't mind them. At least Angel doesn't, Macy still isn't too sure about hers. Macy's is purple with red straps and Angel's is green with blue straps. | | Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 | | 10:06 pm |
Sizes, teeth, shoes, oh my.
Yesterday the farrier was here, floating the horse's teeth and shoeing them. Afterwards I measured both Angel and Macy for horse blankets. Macy is a 68 and Angel is a 70. Haven't ordered the blankets yet, though, haven't actually looked for them, either, heh. | | Thursday, October 25th, 2007 | | 9:15 am |
Rain, Rain, Rain
It's freezing. 50 something degrees. It's raining. Those two don't mix. It should rain in the summer! The horses have been shut up in the barn for two days now because of all the cold rain. My sister finally let them out today because it's not as cold and not as rainy. At the moment they're both charging up and down the pasture at full speed. I guess Angel's better. =P | | Wednesday, October 17th, 2007 | | 9:24 am |
My poor baby!
Eep! My horse has cuts and scrapes all over her. =O Since I don't get up in the morning very well... due to intense pain, my sister has been taking care of my horse as well as her own. Uunnfortunately she doesn't seem to remember to close the stall doors after the horses are out of them, though we know that they like to play Musical Stalls and will go into each others if the doors are left open. Sso I was just waking up and my sister came in pounding on the door yelling that my horse was gushing blood, or something like that. Then she started cutting up a sheet. (By the way, I have the most awesomest and weirdest younger sister) and so I came out and told her I'd do it, she needed to go contain her evil horse and put my poor Angel away. Turns out Angel went into Macy's stall and Macy darted in after her and started kicking her with her hind hooves. She beat her up pretty badly. Rachel managed to separate them and put Angel in a spare stall while she cleaned out a stall so she could stay in it. Then she came and got me so I could bandage my poor baby. She's limping now and is deathly afraid of Macy. She has hair missing from her stomach, shoulder, face, and hip and deep wounds in three of her legs. Hopefully I can convince my mom to get the vet out here, because I don't think I did a good enough job in bandaging her. Now Angel is in her stall with a lot of hay and is relatively happy... and Macy is out of the barn, in the cold pasture with only grass. Haha! ... Heh... I'll probably go out to the barn in a bit to check on Angel again. My knee is acting up, though. The cold bothers it. | | Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 | | 6:17 pm |
Long Time No See!
Well, it's been a rather long time since I've posted, but I have a good reason! ... Kind of.. On September 2nd I fell from Angel (It was her fault, really! I'm a good rider!) and broke my femur. The break was in the middle of the bone and clean in half. I rolled a little ways after I fell and ended up in an ant bed. Fortunately my sister was riding with me (on Macy) and she got my dad and about an hour later I was air lifted to a hospital an hour and a half away from our house. I had two surgeries and will most likely have a third in December. I was in the hospital for five days. Now I'm out and almost walking again. I just have a limp and get tired easily. Unfortunately I haven't seen Angel for almost five weeks and I'm not allowed to ride again until she's been to a trainer. =( Woe is me! Shredding..
Well, Angel's saddle sore is almost better! Hurrah! But unfortunately I don't want to risk making it worse by riding yet. So when Kaylee and I went to the neighbors, she rode, I ran. Shredded up my feet real good on the concrete... for the fourth time. you'd think I'd learn. When we got home, Angel was bobbin' her head up and down and squealing! She does that /every/ time Macy goes anywhere without her or where she can't follow! she won't go anywhere without her, either. So annoying when I want to ride by myself... Any suggestions on how to cure such an attachment? *sigh* Oh well. Current Mood: calm | | Thursday, August 30th, 2007 | | 5:07 pm |

Bleh
I hate it when my horsie isn't well. Rachel and I went riding yesterday (really nice long ride) and when we were cooling down the horses I found a saddle sore on Angel, poor baby. she also has a cut right abov 'er hoof and has thrush. Ugh. so many problems. I won't be riding for awhile! *hugs Angel* Current Mood: gloomy | | Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 | | 7:59 pm |
Horses
Horses are amazing. That's all I have to say for today. Current Mood: ecstatic | | Monday, August 27th, 2007 | | 9:35 am |
Barn Work
Just finished grooming and feeding Angel this morning. Also cleaned her stall. That mare knows how to make a mess! The guy who built our barn is here right now, yay! Some of the latches on the stalls aren't working now because the barn settled, so he's here to adjust them, and the light switch box is right in front of Angel's stall, so he's going to build a box around it so she doesn't fry herself. She would, really. I'm still working on getting her to pick up her feet easily. She really got upset with me today, gave me such a hard time. I also figured out she has thrush. Agh, another thing to take care of. It's not too bad... yet, should get some iodine to put on it. I'm all horsie right now. Off to take a shower. | | Sunday, August 26th, 2007 | | 8:55 am |
Got Wet
Okay, normally I don't get up until 8:30 on Sundays, or five minutes till we leave for church (I think I might be the only girl who's able to do that) and then rush around, get ready, feed Angel, and be in the van in less than four minutes. That's what you call talent. This morning I got up at 8:00 and went out to the barn after feeding Callista. Angel was nickering to me as I walked toward her (Aw, how sweet) and I found her completely covered with dirt and who knows what else. Me: "What did you do to yourself?!" Angel: "whinnies" Me: "Don't try to butter me up." Angel: *nods head* So I put her in the spare stall, fed her, cleaned out her stall. I managed to fill a whole wheel barrow (I have a prolific horse!). Went to the manure pile and emptied it. Now she's bobbing her head up and down at the other stall door, "Feed me more! Feed me more!" There's no way I'm going to get all that dirt off her with just a regular grooming, so I put her halter on, lead her out to a fence post, tie her up, and started the bath water... Also known as the garden hose. She's fine for the first half, and then I get to her left side and "AH! It's going to kill me!". She jumps away and I get most of the water on me. Wow, that's cold. I finally got her all done and clean, and she's now a gold color instead of her normal white/yellow. So pretty, but sadly she's only that color when wet. She's now frolicking in the pasture with Macy. I'm off to try to get my own mane of hair clean. Told you Macy looks like a dork. =P
